Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Professional Establishment I have been a member of Apple Federal Credit Union since the 90’s and have enjoyed this union ever since. If I ever had issues or questions about their services, a customer-friendly representative always provided professional knowledgeable support. There has never been question that I have asked that was not resolved. When I lost by job, they worked with me to lower my monthly payments, which was a tremendous help. I'm just the average customer, but the staff always been made feel important at any branch I visited or any phone call I made to the establishment. I would gladly and have recommended Apple Federal Credit Union to everyone I know.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome savings account I had my extra student savings account from ages 16-23 and it was so helpful. When I moved out of state, I almost switched banks but I couldn't find any with rates as good as this one. Being a young adult on my own, it was hard to keep money in my account after all the bills were paid, but seeing how much I earned even with my little amount in there made it worth it. I would recommend this account to anyone and everyone eligible! The app was easy to use and understand and the breakdown of my account was fun to see and helped me manage my money better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Relief for Educators & A+ for Apple FCU It used to be that teachers had a choice when it came to being paid in the summer; YES or NO. My school district does not give teachers the option to be paid in the summer. Apple FCU's Summer Pay program essentially takes care of that! Each month, Apple takes money from my paycheck and puts it in a special account. In the summer, the money is then distributed equally each month! I no longer have to worry about how I am going to cover summer expenses nor do I have to calculate the money during the school year. It is easy to start, easy to maintain and keep track of, and the staff at Apple FCU are incredibly knowledgeable about this program. I am continuously recommending it to all my fellow educators.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Plain Easy The thing that I like about my accounts with Apple Federal is they are simple to work with. I can easily transfer money I have in one account to another account. It doesn't take as long as other banks either. The online platform is built very well and makes understanding your balance and account history easy. When I opened my account with Apple Federal they did not have mobile banking. I was very pleased with the mobile version that they released. It just like the web version is straight to the point without the unescessery clicking. I always turn to Apple Federal first when in search for a loan or other financial needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Feeling like a queen! I opened a savings account with Apple Federal about six years ago, when an offer was made at my school to receive money for the account for opening it. Each year, I add a bit to the account in order to prevent it from being closed. I have been treated very well every time I enter the lobby to make the deposit. The lobby is attractive, the clerks at the counter smile at me and help me with speedy professionalism. I receive a discount on my insurance due to the account, which is the main reason I opened the account. I am appreciative of the services of Apple Federal and the benefits from the account. I have only positive thoughts and comments. I am grateful for this avenue for savings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Savings Account for Students This is a great way for students to save money and earn interest on their savings. Easy to use account, and easy to save any student earnings. Convenient access on line and in person at the many local branches in schools and around Fairfax County. As a mother and someone who has taught about financial skills in FCPS, I can honestly say this student savings account is a great way for students to learn the benefits of saving and to learn good financial management skills.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waited for one hour I stopped by the branch to open a money market account (I'm an existing). There were 2 people ahead of me. But I had to wait 1 hour to get service. At that time, 2 teller windows were open without any customers. Why can tellers just open a money market account or have 1 of the tellers help with other "quick" services to move customers along ? Better yet, provide the ability to open money market account via the website. It will help reduce the foot traffic at the branch for things that can be done via the website. Once I got my turn for service, it was done quickly and took 5 minutes.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Slow Service I opened a $5 account the other day. What a long time it took--more than 40 minutes. Why did the bank need so much time to investigate me before allowing me to deposit MY $5. The new accounts secretary was professional but icily cold. in response to my concern about having to wait so long as I had other errands to get done afterwards. These errands did not get done that day because I was so delayed by the bank. I've never had to wait so long anywhere else to open an account with far more money in it.

What happens when the account owner turns 24 years old?

Asked by: ProbablyKevin
The Apple FCU eXtras Student Savings account would simply be transitioned to a regular Savings account at that time.
Answered by: AppleFCU
Date published: 2017-01-06

Can you please send me more information about your certificate (CD) and the interest being offered for $50,000 for 5 years. Is the rate locked in for the 5 years? What are the fees?

Asked by: Cindy85
For current Apple FCU Certificate rates, visit https://www.applefcu.org/Savings/Accounts#tab3. A $50,000 min. balance would qualify you for a Jumbo Certificate; those rates are in the second section. When you're ready to get started, login to Online Banking and select 'Add an Account' to open the Certificate in a few simple steps. And yes, rates are locked for whatever term you select. There are no fees to open the account; only an early withdrawal penalty assessed against any earned dividends. Here's the official language from our account disclosures (https://www.applefcu.org/Resources/FormDetails?formid=35): Early withdrawal penalties: If the certificate is redeemed prior to the maturity date the following penalty will apply: - If the term is 6 months or less - the lesser of dividends earned since issuance or renewal or 90 days dividends. - If the term is 6 months to 60 months - the lesser of dividends earned since issuance or renewal or 180 days dividends. - If the term is greater than 60 months - the lesser of dividends earned since issuance or renewal or 1,095 days dividends. Withdrawals needed to comply with IRS RMD requirements are permitted without penalty. There is no penalty for withdrawals as a result of the death of any owner. If the certificate is redeemed within 10 days of renewal, no penalty will apply. Withdrawal of dividends prior to maturity: If dividends are withdrawn during the term of the certificate, the Annual Percentage Yield and earnings will be reduced.

what types of "withdrawals" are allowed in the 6 per month limit for money market accts? Why don't you have this further explained under the Money Market tab?

Asked by: Susan S
Susan, The Money Market and Super Money Market accounts are both governed by Reg D, which allows for only 6 withdrawals per month. The six withdrawals can be made by check, phone or electronic means (ACH, Online banking, Debit card). As a courtesy, when a member completes 4 withdrawal transactions they are notified by email or US mail that they are approaching their Reg D limit for the month. The withdrawal cycle runs for a calendar month, resetting on the 1st of each month.
